One police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a partner that got attacked by a knife attacker received the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a blade to the throat of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the officers and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist subsequent to a vehicle incident in that location in mid-2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Officer knifed," the officer could be heard saying over his communication device.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera video released by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife extended.

He collided with the policeman who lost balance and dropped to the pavement, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the floor even though being multiple times hit with the knife.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a safe opportunity, ending the fight to an end.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need something on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained two lacerations to his neck and more wounds to his limbs and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.

Authorities reported Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stem his colleague's blood loss before paramedics arrived.

The latest recognition follows after the law enforcement team won internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional officer association in early 2024.

They additionally received a Area Valor Recognition in summer 2024.

"The responses of the entire team in the end protected each other and ensured no bystanders experienced any wounds."

Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in April 2024, according to authorities.
